I have played with the idea of blogging for quite awhile now. I am thinking if I just do it when I have something to share I might be able to keep up with it. Here goes....
What's in a name? Well, there are as many answers to that question as there are seeds in a sunflower. LOTS!
When I was born, (don't be rude and ask how old I am) my parents named me Nancy Lee. Nice name, not too common and it goes well with my last name. I got a good deal in the name department. Good deal until I was a cute little kid and my Dad started calling me "Nanny". This did not sit well with me since the only Nanny I knew was a goat. For a number of years I reminded my father that I was not a goat. Of course he would laugh, say "OK" and then continue to call me Nanny.
In high school I transitioned to Nanc. I liked it and my friends accepted it so I went with it. Of course that was not the only "nick name" I had. Being six feet tall, there were, the requisite Stretch and Legs also.
Having made it through school without any horrid nicknames I felt very fortunate and I really appreciated that my Dad no longer called me Nanny. He had moved on to Nan.
A few short years later, my eldest nephew began calling me Ann Anny...his version of aunt Nancy, and it stuck. Once again, I was a Nanny, but somehow, this time it was fine. We progressed, as he grew, into Aunt Nanner. Along came my second nephew and he too took to Nanner like a fish to water. So, there it was, I was Nanner and thrilled to be. I shared this new moniker with everyone and it seemed to spread like wildfire. Pretty soon, I got a computer and when it asked what my name would be, well, I was Nanner so that was that.
Of course, when the boys came along was about the time my sister decided to start calling me Nanny. There was just no way that friggin name was going away. All these years later my sister and her hubby still use it, as does my youngest nephew. Doesn't seem to bother me so much now days.
I guess no matter what name you start out with it goes through transitional periods just like everything else. Having been Nancy, Nanny, Nan, Nanc and Nanner I must say, these days, just call me what you like. It seems I have adapted. :)
There will be more about names later, I am sure.
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.
